Blocking

So, I've finished knitting all the pieces to my salina, but I do not know the best way to block it. How are you all planning on blocking your sweater? Any ideas?

Started Salina today and am picking away at the moss stitch band. I'm using Felted Tweed in "Treacle," a wonderfully subtle and rich color, purple in some lights but brown in others. No pictures yet -- there's nothing to see -- but I'll post a picture once it looks less like a caterpillar

Swatching question..

For a minute there it was looking like I was making really good progress on Salina. But wouldn't you know it, I have to frog and start over (details on my blog). So my question is when I frog and wash the kinks out of the yarn, do I need to reswatch again? Will the washed yarn behave the same or differently than straight off of the ball? I guess what I'm trying to ask is if I should frog, wash and swatch my swatch again? (You know, mimicking the way the yarn will be when I reknit the sweater again.)

Hi there! I am a bit behind on my Salina, though I did swatch it. I'm doing it in Whisper, so I'm breaking out of the Herb box, y'all! I am hoping to have something to show by this time next week, but I wanted to let you know I'm enjoying seeing how everyone is progressing!

I know Becky over at www.skinnyrabbit.com has a lot of hints for finishing Salina.

(Just as an aside, I only focus on knitting at my blog on Fridays, so if you've checked in on other days and are like "WTF is up with this non-knitting stuff?", I DO belong here, I swear.)

Well, it looks like we're all making Salina in the same color - haha! I had actually debated going for a purple color but Herb was just too gorgeous. I'm about 2 repeats into the bust increases for the back.

Looks like a few people are almost done - that is great! Can't wait to see the first one finished up. :-) Thanks again Adele for setting this up!

Let me introduce myself. I am 16 years old and live in Lexington, Kentucky. I have been knitting for 2.5 years so far and am obsessed. I have an extremely small yarn budget, so this is my first sweater. I am very excited!

Making some progress

Here's my finished back and my in-progress front. I went on vacation last week and hoped to have most of the front done by now, but I was having so many gauge issues while I was away, it was driving me insane. Everything is fine now and things are moving along. I'm almost through my first ball for the front. I'm pretty happy with how this is turning out. One thing I realized that I need to do pretty soon is go button shopping. I just read Becky's project notes and think it would be a good idea to have buttons before I make my button holes.

I just threw together a button for us. Sorry for the lack of organization here but I did tell you it was a casual knit-a-long. ;0)

Hope those that have started are progressing well. My Salina start is on hold as I really don't like the colour I bought off eBay. It had BAD colour representation and was the opposite of what I was expecting. Need to rethink.

I cast on for Salina yesterday and I got through two sets of decreases. I'm knitting it in Herb, the color they used in the book. But as you can see, it's not quite the same. The sweater in the book has got more yellow in it and the yarn in person is more of a sage-y green.

Looks like I'm well on my way with this sweater til I checked the gauge last night before I went to bed. I'm getting one more stitch per inch than I did on my gauge swatch. I think the problem here, which is something I'll note in the future is that I swatched with a different shade of Felted Tweed (Cocoa). When I started knitting with Herb, I noticed that Herb wasn't as soft as when I was knitting with Cocoa and had more of a "stringy", rough texture. I'm thinking the dying process had something to do with that. Lesson learned, swatch with the color you're going to use.
